The unlikely expat blogger behind Relocate & Thrive

Hello, I am Sophie
I work as a project manager. I am a parent. An expat living in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn’t part of the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it began as a work opportunity and soon grew into something far bigger.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more challenging than they should.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubt, and plenty of hands-on learning. Gradually, routines formed. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt steady.
Why I Built Relocate & Thrive
Most information online was either corporate relocation tips or shallow tourism material. What was missing was an honest, everyday family perspective.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance based on real life in Netherlands.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site IS:
- Hands-on experience from living in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated when there’s a real change
This site ISN'T:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Netherlands goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue recording what we learn.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Sophie
